Stuart Surridge came to exist in 1867 when Stuart Surridge's grandfather started out by mending old cricket bats and selling them in his local area. As the years went on he started making his own cricket bats from willow trees from his own back garden. As the company grew it passed onto his son and then to his grandson (Stuart Surridge: Shown Above). Stuart Surridge became Captain of Surrey in the 1950's and was the most successful Surrey captain to date. Stuart Surridge became a famous name in the sport of cricket with its SS Jumbo. The likes of WG Grace, Viv Richards, Graham Gooch and Lance Kluesner all used SS cricket bats.

Stuart Surridge spread into the world of football and developed the Surridge Cobbler football, which was the first lace-less football to be developed and the first of the modern footballs. The ball was taken to Sweden by the England manager of the time Walter Winterbottom. The British ball was tested and proved to be better than its competitor balls after it was catapulted 20ft further than its closest rival. The Surridge Cobbler was then chosen for the 1958 world cup in Sweden. In the 1958 world cup, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all played in the finals with both Wales and Northern Ireland getting to the quarterfinals of the competition. The likes of Pele used the Surridge Cobbler and it was the first world cup to be televised.
